Dear Students, here is teh song I mentioned yesterday in class. You may not be familiar with the musical "Grease". It was extremely successful around the time I was your age... ;) I hope you like it.

WISH YOU WERE HERE

This is one of the greatest songs by Pink Floyd. It is an oldie, I know, but it is undeniably a modern classic, and incidentally, it includes the expression "I wish..." - which we have just studied - in the title.

CAN'T FIND MY WAY HOME

"Cant Find My Way Home" is a song written by Steve Winwood and first published in 1969. Eric Clapton was in those days the "God" of guitar playing and had just split up with the "supergroup" CREAM because of fights among its members. Clapton met Steve Winwood and they started writing songs, so Winwood dissolved his band, TRAFFIC, to form together BLIND FAITH. They recorded just one album, also called "Blind Faith", which is - just like everything Clapton and Winwood were doing in those times - key to the introduction of blues-based music in Europe (and in America for that matter), and to the development of modern music. Not as well known to the general public (at least in Spain) as the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton is a key figure in the history of modern music, as he has always been in love with American "roots" music, especially Blues, and has used it as the basis for his own musical production, making a huge contribution to the development of Rock and Blues throughout his life.
In this live version you can see Winwood and Clapton reunited for a performance of this beautiful song at the "Crossroads" festival in 2007. A the back you'll be able to see two guitar heroes of more recent times: Derek Trucks, a master of slide guitar, and Doyle Bramhall. Enjoy it.

HISTORY ACCORDING TO WOMEN

Last month we had an exhibition about women who have played an important role in history. They excelled in the fields of art, sports, politics or science, and our students in the 4th year ESO thought it was time we acknowledged their contributions. Here is a short video summarising the exhibition.

AC/DC play their first show with Axl Rose.

Today AC/DC play at Seville's Olympic stadium with their new singer, Axl Rose... there has been some controversy about this, but it looks like he is doing fine... What do you think?

TELL THE TRUTH

the phrase "Tell the Truth" came up in class and I couldn't help thinking about this great song by "Derek and the Dominos". It was recorded in 1970, as part of the album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs", where Eric Clapton and Duane Allman play guitar in arguably one of the best guitar work ever. I hope you like it.

BROWN-EYED GIRL

I happened to mention this song in class today, as an example of how creative the English language is when it comes to coining adjectives. I really like this song (what else, Van Morrison is one of the "Big' uns"), and I think it's a good thing that students have a chance to listen to it. Now, don't tell me it's not a wonderful song...

French fries... YUMMY???

If you like going to fast food restaurants, have a look at this video It is an excerpt from the documentary "Supersize me", in which Morgan Spurlock, an American filmmaker, spent 30 days eating only hamburguers and other meals from McDonalds, in order to check the physical and psichological effects this may have.

In this part, he shows that McDonalds food takes much longer to break down than others. breaking down is a natural process which all food undergoes, but McDonalds products are treated so that this process is slowed down, which may have negative effects on the human body. Will you eat McDonalds fries after watching this?

This is a song by rock band U2. It is the second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree. The song was a hit, becoming the band's second consecutive number-one single on the US Billboard. Like much of The Joshua Tree, the song was inspired by the group's interest in American music. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" exhibits influences from gospel music and its lyrics describe spiritual yearning.

The Solar System
